Choosing a coach and mentor is second only to choosing a company/product you love.  Because of this, I thought I would share a little bit about myself.

In the late 1980s I began my direct sales career with a popular home decor line.  I was excited, pumped and ready to build a million dollar team.  Well, long story short, I lost the vision and started my journey from one company to the next searching for that golden key.  Maybe you are like me and have tried just about everything out there.   I know I certainly have.

In October 2006, I discovered Scentsy while doing an online search for candles.  I had been researching various candle companies, ordered products from a few and then selected Scentsy as the candle company for me.  I liked the idea of a flameless candle.  In addition, I could see the market potential for professional offices, teachers, and others who couldn't use a traditional flamed candle at work.

So, I ordered my Scentsy Starter Kit and what did I do?  Well, I wasn't the fastest horse out of the gate.  I sold a small amount each month and slowly started to build my team.  Honestly, it was probably a full 6 to 8 months before I picked up the pace.  Having wonderful team members inspired me to do better and I will forever be grateful for their friendship, wisdom and support.  With their help, our team has now grown to over 3000 Consultants across the US and in Canada.  This is something I could have never done alone. 

I built my business online and locally around my already busy lifestyle and family.  Has it been easy?  No.  Definitely, sometimes I wondered if it was all worth it, however, I made a promise to myself that quitting wasn't an option.  Am I glad I didn't quit!  I love Scentsy, the products, people and how it has changed my life.  I firmly believe it can change yours too, if you believe in yourself, work hard and don't quit.

What have I learned?  Quit trying to be the best at everything and be the best at one thing.  Early in my direct sales career, I was all over the place, lacking focus and direction.  Find something you can be passionate about, put energy into it, focus and in a year's time you will be amazed at how far you have come.
